Well here's the latest update. Monday morning all the doctors did rounds and there were like 7 or 8 of them consulting on Cailyn's case. The lead guy was like a nicer version of House. He was quizzing the others and he seems really good. I believe when we leave here he is who we will follow up with in Fairfax so that was good to meet him.
He also seems concerned about her future quality of life, not just stopping the seizures now. The medicine she's on now can cause development delays so I don't think he wants to keep her on that very long and will find another one that will work without such harsh side effects.
She had to get an MRI today and for those of you who have had one you'll know it sounds like you are at a construction site with jackhammers and semi-truck horns blaring for a good 40 minutes. For this test you have to remain totally still so they wanted to sedate her. She's been pretty zonked out on drugs lately so I said I would prefer they didn't sedate her and that's she's a pretty heavy sleeper. So they gave her ear plugs, and these paste on earmuffs over them, then bundled her up tight in blankets and she did great. They were able to finish all the tests without her moving. And I was concerned that Elvis' barking would wake her up.
Cailyn is definitely her Father's daughter. She slept basically all day and is now awake overnight--quite nocturnal.
I talked to the doctors after the MRI and they did not have the final official report from the MRI but by looking at it briefly they did not see any problems. I believe they are hopefully that the Vitamin B shot they gave her the night before might have fixed things. We'll find out more Tuesday morning but they do want to try to send us home tomorrow as well.
I'll send more updates as soon as we figure out what's up. My parents have stayed an extra week with us, so that's been really helpful and then my sister is coming to stay Saturday to Tuesday. It will be nice to get home some time soon.
Basically being in the hospital since the 14th, (with my c section and recovery and now this stay at Children's) is really getting tiring.
